As opposed to the musical version of Wicked, in the book, the relationship between the sisters Elphaba and Nessarose Thropp and their friend G(a)linda Upland is much more volatile and has a great deal more to do with clashes of belief and personality. However, the three are supposedly bound together in a single destiny during their school years, which, if it is to be believed as the source, has great repercussions for each of the women later in their lives.
